Setting Up
----------
1. I recommend you place all the files for Fersale door in a seperate
directory. You do as you wish.
2. Make a batch file to run the door. Feathernet and PCBoard require that a
batch file be made, but DO NOT add ".bat" to the end of the filename. Place
this file in the directory where pcboard.sys is created.
Sample Batch files:
a. Feathernet Door Batch file for FERSALE DOOR
c: ; CHDIR to directory where fersale
cd\fnet ; door files reside
FERSALE.EXE fersale.cfg ; Command line to run fersale door.
cd\fnet ; CHDIR back to fnet home directory
; although it is the same in this
; example
b. PCBoard Door Batch File for FERSALE DOOR
c: ; CHDIR to directory where fersale
cd\pcb ; door files reside
FERSALE.EXE fersale.cfg ; Command line to run fersale door.
cd\pcb ; CHDIR back to PCBoard home directory
BOARD
3. Make your configuration file
The configuration file has been changed to allow the sysop to define the
location of all files used by fersale door.
The Programmer's Inn ;BBS Name
Rooster Pierce ;Sysop's Name
c:\qb\ ;Path to Fersale door's menus and help files
c:\qb\fersale.dat ;Path/Name of Fersale Door's Data file
c:\qb\pcboard.sys ;Path /Name to pcboard.sys file
c:\qb\blt5 ;Path and Name to fersale bulletin
c:\qb\bulhead ;Path and Name to fersale bulletin header << NEW
c:\qb\bultail ;Path and Name to fersale bulletin footer << NEW
00000 ;Your Registration Number -
The bulletin footer is the path / name of a file which is displayed
immediately after the fersale bulletin. Both of these files need a
graphics counterpart which ends with "G". Ensure your actual file name
is 7 or fewer characters so the "G" can be added to it.
These files are added/appended to the bulletin created by Fersale.
(Note that the "G" indicating "graphics" is determined by fersale door if
a user is using ansi color graphics.)
Leave the comments out of your REAL "fersale.cfg" file.
(Note that the "fersale.cfg" name for your configuration file is not
`hard coded' into the fersale door. You may use any legal dos filename
for your fersale door config file)
4. Ensure the file "fersale.hlp" is in the directory with fersale.exe and
fersale.cfg.
5. Fersale door now allows the sysop to make custom menus for display at the
main menu. Until a user selects "X"pert mode, the menu will always be
displayed at the main menu. A user selecting "X"pert mode may view the menu
with the "?" command.
The names for the menu files are HARD-CODED into the door program. They are:
"FERSALE.MEN" for the ascii menu
"FERSALEG.MEN" for the ansi color menu
Ensure your two menu files are in the directory with all other fersale door
files.
6. You may run the door in local mode outside the bbs with the command line
"fersale fersale.cfg /l" (Use your actual .cfg filename)
7. The sysop can repack the data file (remove deleted items) from either local
mode (fersale fersale.cfg /l) or when logged onto the bbs locally (keyboard
logon). This is done with the "P" command.
8. To pack fersale door's data file from an event, have a command line
paramater "/P". (FERSALE.EXE FERSALE.CFG /P)
9. Registration not only makes you feel better, it proudly displays
your bbs name in a REGISTERED Shareware message as one enters the door.
Your comments and suggestions are welcome anytime!
